NEGAUNEE TWP. -- As parents get their kids ready for school, now may be a good time to make sure they're up-to-date with their vaccines.

This upcoming Monday, the Marquette County Health Department will be holding back-to-school immunizations at their clinic in Negaunee Township. By sixth grade, students should have all of their vaccines. But recently, health officials have seen a resurgence in whooping cough in Marquette County.

"We've been seeing cases of whooping cough or Pertussis in Marquette County; we've seen them in the state of Michigan and nationwide," said Lori Marta of the Marquette County Health Department. "This disease has been causing a lot of grief for families, so we recommend everyone, including adults, be up-to-date with their Protasis vaccination."

Availability is based on the eligibility of the kids. To find out if your son or daughter is eligible, call the health department at 475-7844.
