ISHPEMING -- Bell Hospital in Ishpeming and community members came out Thursday to dedicate the new Bell Community Garden.  It's open to all local gardeners with 30 garden beds, 20 of them are now being used, and they all contain compost.

It's a self sustaining garden that uses water from a rain water harvesting system.  The project was funded by a grant from the Michigan Community Health Department.

The garden was built with the help of many volunteers.  The idea came up last year as a hospital initiative to create an outreach to the area.

"We want to talk about healthy food.  We want people to get together and talk about a healthy planet.  We want people to get together, and we have community members over there right now talking about how did you grow this, how did you grow that plant?  I really like that, maybe I'll try that next year," said Kori Tossava of the Bell Foundation.

If you'd like, you can rent a bed next season for $30.
