NEGAUNEE -- Two suspects are in the Marquette County Jail after a situation with police in Negaunee.

Law enforcement agencies were alerted at 11:15 p.m. Monday night to be on the lookout for a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with Wisconsin plates. Ishpeming Police were searching for the vehicle, which was believed to be involved in an attempted larceny from a garage and motor vehicle.

A short time later, an off duty Ishpeming officer located the suspect vehicle at the CITGO Gas Station on US-41 in Negaunee. After checking the registration, police discovered that the Jeep had been reported stolen out of Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Negaunee City Police officers pulled up behind the Grand Cherokee. In an attempt to flee, the driver rammed the police cruiser several times. The driver and a passenger were eventually pulled from the vehicle.

The driver was arrested and charged with unlawful driving away of an automobile, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and driving on a suspended license. The passenger was also arrested on a charge of unlawful driving away of an automobile. Additional charges against that person may be sought.

In addition to these arrests, the Negaunee City Police report that the two suspects were meeting with several other persons in two additional vehicles in the store parking lot. Police issued several citations for minors in possession, and one driver was arrested and charged for driving on a suspended license.

Names of those arrested and jailed will be withheld pending arraignment.

Assisting the Negaunee City Police were officers with the Ishpeming City Police, Marquette County Sheriff's Department, the Michigan State Police, and the Marquette City K-9 Unit.
