MANISTIQUE -- The United States Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, has designated this week National Farmers Market Week.  Shoppers lined up to celebrate at Little Bear West Arena in Manistique.

The Manistique Farmers Market is held from 4 to 6 p.m. until October 31.  It began two years ago as a partnership between the Sault Tribe Strategic Alliance for Health Project and the City of Manistique.

Sixteen farmers from Delta and Schoolcraft Counties showed off their best flowers, fresh fruits, and vegetables to customers.

"And you get to talk to the market person and ask them how they grew it and if they used any chemicals or not," said Market Master, Kerry Ott.

The market was a recipient of the USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) grant as well.
