NEGAUNEE -- The benefit for a young woman battling colon cancer was a success at the Knights of Columbus in Negaunee Thursday.
Twenty-three-year-old Rachael Beacco is recovering from treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Meanwhile, her friends and family put together a benefit with live music, a 50/50 raffle and food. More than 100 local businesses donated items to be auctioned off.
"The support that the community has had for Rachael is just amazing and overwhelming. It's just great to see everyone willing to do so much. People that don't even know her are willing to donate and help out with the benefit and the different things we're doing to raise money for her," said volunteer and supporter, Allyson Tincknell.
The benefit went from 4 to 7 Thursday evening. Rachael's fellow graduates of Negaunee High School also got together and made t-shirts bearing the slogan 'No One Fights Alone." All the money from the shirt sales, as well as Thursday's benefit, go to help Rachael offset her medical expenses.
