HUBBELL -- There's a new autism awareness group in the Copper Country. It's made up of four grandparents, two of which have an autistic grandson.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), one in 88 children are diagnosed with some form of autism.

The goal of this new group is to bring awareness to the issues facing children who are living with the disorder.

"We would like to help the parents. We want to find out what their needs are so that we have the time to make the phone calls and maybe make some things happen for them to make their life a little easier,” said group member Kathe Lanctot.

If you're interested in joining the non-profit organization or if you would like to give a donation, a public meeting will be held on July 18 at Portage Health Hospital at 6:30 p.m.
