NEGAUNEE -- Pioneer Days in Negaunee kicked off the weekend with a two-mile fun run on Saturday.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marquette County has hosted the event for the last 30 years, and this year more than 250 participants signed up. All of the proceeds benefit the organization in matching more kids in the county with big brothers and sisters.

"The kids, after they're matched with a big brother or big sister, show many great outcomes," said Jayne Letts, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marquette County. "They do better in school, they get along better with other kids, they have more hope for the future, they learn about careers and new activities. It benefits them in a multitude of ways."

This year the organization hopes to double their profits from last year's run that raised $3,000.
