NEGAUNEE -- One of the events as part of Pioneer Days in Negaunee this weekend was the picnic by Teal Lake.

The highlight of the picnic is the firefighters tournament, where 11 fire departments from across Marquette County competed in multiple games and races for a trophy and bragging rights. Firefighters have been participating in Pioneer Days since it began more than 30 years ago. Several vendors offered hot dogs, pizza, ice cream, or just fun items to buy.

The heavy rain kept crowds smaller this year, but there were still several hundred that came to have fun.

"Seems like all the fire departments are having a good time," said Fire Chief Ned Cory of the City of Negaunee Fire Department. "The races are running smooth. Everybody's eating, smiling, laughing. The rain seems to be a little bit of a damper, but it still seems to be a good time for everybody."

Pioneer Days concluded with fireworks over Teal Lake at dusk.
