A woman and her family get a new home through Habitat for Humanity

ISHPEMING -- Main Street in Ishpeming will be crammed with construction for the next week, and it's all to help one woman and her family.

Habitat for Humanity is kicking off their construction season by building a home for Tara Runion's family of four. Runion says her current apartment is too small for her family, so they applied for the Habitat project.

"I'm overwhelmed, excited. This is just amazing, very amazing. I don't even know how to express my feelings. I don't know. It's just amazing. It's awesome," said Runion.

A group of volunteers, mainly students, from a downstate church came to the U.P. to lend Habitat a helping hand.

The philanthropists are working all day, every day this week, to bring their vision to life.

"Even though it seems like a small bit of time, but really a week is a week of your time that you can't get back. So it's a huge benefit to these families that we're working for. The kids learn. We want the kids to learn. We provide a trip that's fun for them, and yet they're learning to serve as well," said volunteer, Dave Allerding.

This particular group of volunteers has been coming to the U.P. to help for the past 25 years.

When this group of kids goes home at the end of the week, a new bunch of volunteers will help build Runion and her family the three bedroom home of her dreams.

The home is expected to be completed in November.
