Drowning at Van Riper State Park

MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The victim of a possible drowning at Lake Michigamme at the Van Riper State Park has been identified as Shawn Radcliffe Jr., 38, of Marquette.

The Marquette County Sheriff's Department Dive Team located and recovered Radcliffe shortly after 10 p.m. Friday evening. The victim was swimming with friends when he began to have difficulties, according to witnesses. The friends attempted to rescue the victim but were unsuccessful.

Assisting at the scene was the Marquette County Sheriff's Department Dive Team, Marquette County Rescue Unit 131, Champion Township First Responders and Bell Hospital EMS.

No foul play is suspected and the investigation continues.

Rescue crews were called to Van Riper State Park Friday evening for a possible drowning.  A boater was reported missing just before 6:30 p.m.   Police divers are searching for the man in Lake Michigamme.

TV6 and FOX UP has a reporter on the scene.  We'll have more information as it becomes available.

We just spoke with Michigan State Police about the search for the possible drowning victim at Van Riper State Park. We're being told divers are still on scene searching. We'll continue to bring you more information as it is released
