ISHPEMING -- Plans for the proposed County Road 595, which will connect Rio Tinto's Eagle Mine to Humboldt, are moving forward.  The topic was brought up at Wednesday's Marquette County Road Commission meeting.

The permit application for the project had been put on hold.  The EPA and DEQ were concerned with how the project would affect wetlands in that area.  County Road 595 will divert truck traffic from populated areas to Rio Tinto's Eagle Mine.

"There's been lots of work done by the consultants answering questions and concerns about the DEQ and EPA," said Road Commission engineer Jim Iwanicki.  "We are hopefully trying to make that last push for information that they've asked for."

Project officials will be meeting with the EPA and DEQ for any final questions this Friday.  They hope to have a decision on a permit the week of July 23.
