A couple kicks off the event with their "I do's"

IRON RIVER -- This past weekend, Iron River’s demolition derby had something special for spectators. A couple kicked off the event saying their "I do's".

Heather Benette and Dennis Charbarneau have known each other for almost 20 years. In August of 2010, the two were invited to the same wedding where Dennis asked Heather to their first dance.

“We knew each other roughly 20 years. We both went separate ways, met again at my nephew's wedding, and that was it,” says Dennis and Heather.

Since they met, it’s been two years, and the couple is eager to say their “I do's” in a unique way. They decided to get married in the center of the arena at the Iron County Fairgrounds

“Something different, and I think this is the first time that anyone got married at the derby,” Heather says.

The couple tied the knot Saturday right before the demolition derby. They say they've never been happier, and their love, unlike the demolition cars, is indestructible.
