MARQUETTE -- The Marquette City Police are investigating a stabbing in the city.

At 1:25 a.m. Monday morning, police were called to the 500 block of Wright Street for reports of a woman screaming.

Upon investigation, it was found that a 19-year-old Marquette man had received multiple stab wounds during an assault.  The man was taken to Marquette General Hospital where he received treatment and was expected to be released later Monday, according to police.

"There was a disagreement and an assault ensued and during that assault a knife was brought into the event and the victim had been stabbed several times," said Detective Captain Gordon Warchock of the Marquette City Police Department.  "It's a serious case we could've had an individual dead."

The male and female suspects remain in jail.  Names are being withheld pending an arraignment.
