MARQUETTE -- A Marquette orchestra teacher is taking her music overseas this summer.

Janis Peterson will be conducting the Blue Lake International Orchestra.  They've been rehearsing on weekends throughout the year at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp near Muskegon.

Peterson has taken her Marquette orchestras abroad plenty of times, but leading the Blue Lake group is quite an honor.

Over 80 students form the ensemble, including some from Germany and France.

"It's really, really interesting to see how things are different for them and how things are the same," said Peterson.  "Music is the international language, so when we sit down with people from other cultures, we still play the same notes on the page."

Peterson will also be joined by two of her students from Marquette.  The tour includes six stops in France and Germany over 24 days.
