IRONWOOD -- Singing and dancing he plans to do. Miles Mykkanen returns to the stage of Theatre North in his hometown of Ironwood for a one man show this week.
"I feel at home singing in general. So no matter where I am, I can be above in my dorm room or in the theatre. There's a certain amount of comfort that comes from singing. There's no other place like being on stage," said Mykkanen.
His father, Daniel Mykkanen, says Miles showed his love of music at a young age.
"He could sing back pitches before he could speak, and he was imitating different instruments pretty much before he could speak. So we kind of knew that he had a knack for it," said Daniel Mykkanen.
Growing up, Miles practiced with his father at the piano, and now he's training at Juilliard with one year until he graduates.
"Juilliard has taken everything I came in with and really just molded and shaped me into a young artist," Mykkanen said.
He will show off what he's learned at Juillaird with a new repertoire of music at this year's performance. His father will, once again, accompany him on piano.
"It's just very exciting to be able to come home and share my passion with the community, then share it with my father on stage," he said.
The performance will include 19 songs, spanning over eight decades, with a variety of styles including opera, musical theatre, even some patriotic tunes.
