ISHPEMING -- The Cliffs Shaft Mining Museum has opened its doors for summer tours this year.

The museum is set up on the site of the Cliffs Shaft Mine in Ishpeming and boasts a number of unique exhibits.  As part of the tours, visitors can go into the tunnels that miners walked and learn the history of mining from 1845 to the present.

Artifacts, pictures, and equipment are all on display and provide a historic context for the mines' operations.

The Cliffs Shaft Mine was the longest running underground iron ore mine, running from 1868 to 1967.  Also on display are over 800 minerals from the U.P. and around the world.

The tours run Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
