IRON MOUNTAIN -- The 32nd Annual Hometown Lumber Athletes of the Year banquet was held Thursday evening in Iron Mountain.

The event drew over 100 people to see who would receive the top male and female athlete of the year title.

Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Norway, North Dickinson, Niagara and Florence all compete on a monthly basis from August through May.  The banquet also featured a speech by Olympic snowboarder Nick Baumgartner of Iron River.  He encouraged the athletes to dream big and never give up.

"Grab life by the horns, as they say, but just go out there and know what you want to do, set goals and attack them; make sure you achieve them," said Baumgartner to the athletes.

Kingsford High School's Jeff Gregory and Iron Mountain High School's Rikki Gingras were honored as the male and female athletes of the year.

The two students received $500 scholarships.
