MARQUETTE -- The Upper Peninsula Children's Museum was full of adults Thursday night. The museum closed early to celebrate the end of its 'torch the mortgage' campaign.

They were looking for 55 donors to give $1,000 each, over 18 months, to pay off the mortgage, and they succeeded.

"To see people come forward is...my gosh, it was so fulfilling. We've been working on this project for so many years, and to see the support like that was absolutely wonderful," said Nheena Weyer Ittner, Director of the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum.

The mortgage will be paid off in July of next year. This will free up money for the museum to focus on new projects.  Their next job:  remodeling the human body exhibit.
