MARQUETTE -- The search is over, and Northern Michigan University has selected Forrest Karr as the new athletic director.  NMU President David Haynes announced Karr's selection to a crowd at the Wildcat Room of the Berry Events Center.

Haynes said Karr was chosen because of his wide range of experience.  Karr has served as the athletic director for the University of Alaska Fairbanks and will begin his position as NMU's AD June 11.  He joined NMU officials via Skype from California.

"I'm just eager to get started and fully committed, 100 percent committed to ensuring a quality experience in every way for Wildcat students," said NMU AD Forrest Karr.

"When you look at sort of a president's checklist of what you're looking for in an AD, Forrest has the whole package," said NMU President David Haynes.

Karr will be overseeing all NMU athletics, recreational sports, and the United States Olympic Education Center.
