MARQUETTE -- Despite the risk of rain Monday, many folks got out to honor our country's heroes.

At the Marquette Park Cemetery, veterans and families paid respects to fallen soldiers, especially those buried at the cemetery.

The Knights of Columbus made a special appearance at the Holy Cross Cemetery on Wright Street.  On this Memorial Day, some stopped and remembered their own loved ones who've served.

"I'm thinking of both my parents, for example. I hold fond memories of both my parents and then soldiers that've been killed in the line of duty. They should be honored, and I'm just glad that I wasn't killed in the line of duty," said David Vallar of the Knights of Columbus.

A flag was raised while those present all joined in to sing the National Anthem.
