LUCE COUNTY -- The Department of Natural Resources announced that the Tahquamenon Falls State Park will be temporarily closed due to the Duck Lake Fire, which is nearing 20,000 acres.

DNR officials have closed the park's Lower Falls campground and Upper Falls viewing area.  Campers have been relocated to either the Rivermouth campground or Muskallonge Lake State Park, which are both considered safe alternatives.

More than 100 campers planning to come to the park have been contacted and either canceled their reservations, with refund, or have been transferred to other parks.

Officials believe the Duck Lake Fire, also being called the Pike Lake Fire, will be within one mile of the Upper Falls viewing area.
