Quicker claims for veterans

IRON MOUNTAIN -- Congressman Dan Benishek was in Iron Mountain meeting with area veterans.  Benishek says he wants to speed up the claims process.  Detroit's regional VA office that processes disability claims for Michigan veterans takes 15 to 18 months to complete.

One of Benishek's proposed solutions is providing a temporary rating system to disperse compensation immediately.

"Just fast track that. Get the most frequent claims adjudicated quickly; free up a lot of people to move forward on other more complex claims," said Benishek.

Veteran Affairs officers responded that temporary ratings could over compensate medical expenses.  That means veterans would have to repay the compensation.
