ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP -- The 13th annual family night at Aspen Ridge was a huge hit Wednesday night. The event is an effort to bring the community together and end the school year on a fun note. Local businesses and organizations chipped in to provide door prizes, games and activities for the families to enjoy. Organizers say it's an important event even with the pressure schools are facing.

"It's a really nice thing to do considering how tough the economic times have been and how schools have been under the gun to make ends meet and this is just a really positive experience for the community and for the kids at the school," said Bryan DeAugustine the Aspen Ridge Principal.

The kids got a chance to craft their own kites, participate in some street luge, and even shoot a fire hose. The crowd at the Aspen Ridge family night was estimated at around 700.
