MARQUETTE -- Saturday was the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Stamp Out Hunger is a national food drive organized by the U.S. Postal Service. Food items are left outside of homes and collected by letter carriers. Full vehicles are unloaded at the local post offices and sent back out for more. Food is piled into four-wheel containers and weighed; the food is then picked up by local pantries.

"I think this is one of the best things the postal service and letter carriers do together," said Don Darga, a retired letter carrier.

At the Marquette Post Office, they collected 14,700 pounds of food which is several hundred pounds more than last year. The food will be distributed to Saint Vincent DePaul, the Janzen House, the Women's Center, Voices for Youth, and the Salvation Army.
