The Delft Theater to close in downtown Marquette

MARQUETTE -- The Delft Theater in downtown Marquette has new owners.

The Delft, LLC purchased the movie theater from Carmike Cinemas, and it was announced on Wednesday that the theater will be closing on May 10.

The new owner is excited to work on renovation and upgrading the location so it will complement the rebirth of downtown Marquette.  There are redevelopment plans that include restoring the theater building and the lighted facade sign on Washington St.

The Delft was built in 1920 by Fred Donckers, Sr. and has been an entertainment center since it opened.  The building was originally a live theater and performing arts center.
