MARQUETTE -- An Ishpeming man who used a rifle to shoot at a building learned his fate on Friday.

Phillip Swanson, 19, will serve between two and six years in prison, with credit for 103 days already served.

In Marquette County Circuit Court Friday, Judge Thomas Solka said Swanson is a habitual offender, and he was on probation for previous felonies at the time of the shooting.  Police arrested Swanson and two others last January after they drove by a home in Marquette and discharged a firearm.

Swanson pled guilty to the charge.

"Given your status at the time you committed the offense as well as the nature of this offense there's no reservation in my mind that the commitment to the Department of Corrections is necessary, appropriate in your case," said Judge Solka.

Initial police reports say a drug deal gone bad and a dispute over a girl led to the shooting.  A window of the home was shot out.
