IRON MOUNTAIN -- The Michigan Tech Mind Trekkers brought 80 experiments to Bay College West in Iron Mountain, mystifying and amazing young students at the event.  More than 1,400 students from different counties in the U.P. and Northern Wisconsin attended.

Some of the hands-on science, math, and engineering experiments included the giant bubble and the vortex cannon.  It's filled with smoke, and the fog spirals inside and flows out.  The big experiment was the liquid nitrogen explosion.

According to officials, the event shows students how fun learning can really be.

"Science and technology are a big part of our everyday living, and it's important to know that to be functional in society," said Bay College West Vice President, Patrick D. Kennedy.

The Mind Trekkers will be showing their experiments Friday at Lake Superior State University.
