A special ceremony marked a milestone Saturday for those ready to serve their country

HOUGHTON -- A special ceremony marked a milestone Saturday for those ready to serve their country.

Ten Michigan Tech ROTC cadets from both the Army and the Air Force were commissioned into the armed forces. Family and friends were present to watch them take the oath to become a lieutenant and pin their rank on their uniform.

"The one constant in the military is change, so flexibility is very important," said Lt. Col. Michael D. Brothers. "One of the best pieces of advice I got as a young second lieutenant was to bloom where you're planted, so it doesn't matter what job you're given, what base you're assigned to, to do the best job you can at that job at that base."

The new lieutenants were assigned to Air Force and Army bases respectively throughout the United States.
