Kids at Father Marquette Elementary in Marquette received the seeds to take the future of our planet into their own hands

MARQUETTE -- Kids at Father Marquette Elementary in Marquette received the seeds to take the future of our planet into their own hands.

The Good Neighbear and State Farm insurance representatives visited the Pre-K to fourth grade students Friday morning. The students had already been talking about Earth Day in their classes, and they each received their own evergreen tree to take home and plant. About 170 trees were given out.

State Farm hopes the kids will plant them and keep the Arbor Day message alive.

"We hope that they are always learning to respect the earth and the environment and give them responsibility for taking care of a tree and helping it grow. We'd like to see the trees get big, grow tall so they can watch it over the years," said State Farm agent Kara Applekamp.

The trees given to the students were packaged by people with disabilities and sent to State Farm offices.
