ESCANABA -- U.P. veterans from 86 to 92 years old are participating in the second Upper Peninsula Honor Flight scheduled to take off Thursday morning from Escanaba.
A meet and greet was held for the participants, organizers, and guardians Wednesday at the Peninsula Bay Inn.
The Honor Flight is flying World War II veterans free of charge to see the memorials in Washington, DC. Organizers say there isn't an empty seat on the plane. In fact, there are already around 40 people on the waiting list for the next Honor Flight.
"We're really hoping for September. That's when our inaugural one went, and we had a great time with the weather and everything. And it gives us a little chance to recoup from this one to then raise that money, just like from September to April gave us time to recoup," said Honor Flight volunteer, Paula Waegha.
The plane will return to Escanaba from the one day roundtrip Thursday night at 9:30.
