'Darling' celebrates grand opening
MARQUETTE -- While some stores and businesses have been forced to close in this economy, examples of those who continue to thrive are present in the U.P.
One local business woman is expanding her Escanaba business to Marquette.
The Morrison Shop in downtown Escanaba has been a women's clothing staple for years. Manager Judy DeClaire has been with The Morrison Shop for more than 15 years and says it's more than a store for most customers.
"They are more than just customers, they are our friends; we watch the little ones grow up," said DeClaire.
Paula Hughes has owned the store for more than a decade and says when the opportunity to expand presented itself, she jumped at the chance.
Clothing and accessories have been coming in the doors of Darling on Washington Street in downtown Marquette since winter, but now that the store is fully stocked, the grand opening was celebrated this month.
Hughes says the secret to a successful U.P. business is all about finding what people need.
"Everyday I get people in there that say there is nowhere in the U.P. to buy a nice dress, so we stock up on the dresses," said Hughes.
She says customers will find similar styles and items at the new store, but not exactly the same merchandise.
