MARQUETTE -- Twelve months probation...that's the punishment handed down to a Gwinn man who rammed a vehicle into an apartment complex.

Eighteen-year-old Christopher Maki was sentenced in Marquette County District Court on Monday for one count of operating under the influence of a controlled substance.  A plea agreement eliminated previous charges of driving without a license and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Last February, Maki drove an SUV into a residence in Lake Superior Village, causing extensive damage to the apartment.

"When you're sitting at home in your house, you don't really expect somebody's automobile to come crashing through your wall. Apparently you were on some sort of substance. Really everybody, including you, is very lucky that nobody got seriously hurt," said Judge Roger W. Kangas.

Maki was also ordered to pay $690 in restitution.
