MARQUETTE -- During the recent warm weather, BSA had people asking about motorcycles and scooters. On a motorcycle, you can get 50 plus miles to a gallon.
It takes half a gallon of gas to fill the tank of a scooter and it will go 100 or more miles. Rick Nelson with BSA says more people are looking to buy a motorcycle that serves for sport uses and transportation.
"On-off road motorcycles are gaining popularity with a lot of people. They want to become road riders and they also want to ride in the dirt," said Nelson.
The cost for a Yamaha on-off road bike runs around $3,000. He also says that most people can get a good motorcycle in the price range of $5,000 to $12,000.
When you decide to go shopping for your new set of wheels, make sure it's comfortable and just the right size for you.
Before jumping the gun and purchasing a new motorcycle, you need to have a license endorsement. You should take a motorcycle driving safety course.
Tom Mallett, a motorcycle instructor, suggests you take the course.
"This program teaches the motorcyclists how to stay alive out there, and it doesn't matter how long you've been riding. If you're under the age of 18, you are required by law to take this course. If you've been riding for 30 years, I still think it's a great course to take," said Mallett.
The course is taught at Northern Michigan University over the span of three days and costs $25.
