Leo and Nona Niemi spent the weekend looking for the right car to take on their summer trip to North Carolina, and they found the perfect one at the U.P. Auto Show.
"It's going to get a lot better mileage than our van we formerly owned; with the gas prices, we figured we'd have to make a decision and we did."
People could purchase or trade in their wheels for a new or used one at an awesome deal. Officials say this year was more successful than previous years, and it seems that people are looking for cars that will save on gas.
"We got 75 degrees outside, it's a nice day to come look at the cars, and I think people are getting excited. Fuel economy, a lot of people are trading in bigger vehicles to smaller vehicles," said Norton.
Jessica Cato chose a Ford Fiesta for 16 grand. "A nice small fuel efficient car," said Cato.
Rich Berkhieser, who purchased a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, says there was more variety this year.
"The way they had it laid out this year is fabulous. You didn't have two or three dealerships with the same kind of vehicles. It was nice...you could start at one end and go right on down through three or six different dealerships, and they're lined up one side of the Dome to the other side," said Berkhieser.
Although shoppers are looking for the car that best suits their lifestyle, they're making sure they purchase one that has the best gas mileage.
