Friday's lake effect snowfall brought a few inches to counties bordering Lake Superior. Lows brought most areas into the 10s, but earlier than usual. Temperatures have risen steadily since the early morning hours.
Saturday will be the first of many warm days ahead. A strong southerly flow and lots of sunshine will grant the U.P. with highs in the mid 40s and higher. The western counties should see the warmest temps in the 50s. Sustained winds will be around 15 to 25 mph in the daytime.
Saturday night will see lows only falling into the 30s. Several locations will remain above freezing. It will be warmest near Lake Superior. Winds will shift to a more southwesterly flow and lighten up.
Sunday's highs will be even warmer. Temperatures will be almost entirely in the 50s approaching 60. It may be a bit cooler out east near Lake Michigan. Winds will be light, but persisting out of the south.
Sunshine will be plentiful in the daytime, but clouding up steadily Sunday night. Lows will be in the mid to upper 30s. Conditions will become foggy. Rain is likely late Sunday night.
Monday will see plenty of rain throughout the day. Warmer temperatures will continue throughout much of the upcoming week. Highs will often be in the 50s.
With so many days with warm and above freezing temperatures, snow will be melting quickly. Some light flooding could be possible.
On an interesting astronomy note, March 12-13th will see an alignment of Venus and Jupiter. They will be unmistakably bright in the western sky toward sunset and will be very close together. Monday will be rainy and cloudy, but Tuesday should give you a better opportunity to see them. Check out this link from MSNBC.
For more weather info and updates catch me tonight on our Weekend Late News and on Facebook. I will also continue filling in for Wesley Williams in the mornings all of next week, so that means Karl Bohnak will be taking care of Sunday night's weather.
