CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP -- We're coming up on a new year, and while many people have resolution ideas, it can be challenging to stay motivated to stick to them.

Liz Mathie is the manager and personal trainer at Anytime Fitness in Chocolay Township. She said if exercising more is one of your resolutions, take small steps to reach your goal.

If you choose a gym,  find one where you feel you fit in. And personal trainers aren't as expensive as they seem.  They can offer encouragement and guidance.

"It's a new year.  It's a new beginning, yes.  It's super important.  There's nothing like waking up and fitting in your clothes to start with," said Mathie.  "And then to have a healthier heart, to be able to breathe when you're walking up an extra flight of stairs."

Mathie said there were already a lot of people exercising at Anytime Fitness on Christmas Eve and even Christmas Day.
