Rates will go up six percent next year

MARQUETTE -- The cost to keep a boat at the City of Marquette's marinas will be going up next year.

The Marquette City Commission approved a six percent increase in marina slip rates Monday night.

The City Commission is sticking with its seven-year plan devised last year to increase the rate six percent a year at the Presque Isle and Cinder Pond marinas.

The goal of the rate increase is to make the marinas self-sufficient so taxpayers don't have to pay for maintenance.
