Hunters across the state can easily donate any unwanted deer to feed the hungry

MARQUETTE -- Hunters across the state can easily donate any unwanted deer to feed the hungry, thanks to a program called Sportsmen Against Hunger. The sportsmen's organization was started in 1991. Since then, it's helped serve tens of thousands of pounds of food, primarily venison, to those in need in Michigan.

Hunters wishing to help only need to bring the deer to a participating processor.

"A donation process where the hunter can bring trim or a full deer, and we process it at no charge to the hunter, and then it goes to a food pantry, Salvation Army or whatever, of the hunter's choice," said Kurt Zinski, owner of Deer & Game Cutters.

Hunters are sent a receipt as proof the shipment to their chosen location was completed. All donations through Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger are tax deductible.
