Students were asked to design themed works of art in the spirit of the holiday season and the Marquette community

MARQUETTE -- With school budgets suffering nationwide, art programs are seeing some major cuts. But one student group at Northern Michigan University is trying to prove to parents that art is crucial to education.

The NMU Leadership Fellowship program, along with North Star Academy students, are trying to bring back Picasso, or bring art to students, and they did just that on Saturday at the Peter White Public Library.

Students were asked to design themed works of art in the spirit of the holiday season and the Marquette community. They showcased their artwork at the library for anyone to come by and see. All the creativity is in effort to keep art from fading in education.
