GLADSTONE -- Members of the 1430th unit of the Michigan National Guard will be returning home on Friday after a little over a year in Afghanistan.

A welcome home celebration is planned for them at Gladstone High School's gymnasium.  The event starts at approximately 10 a.m., but the gym will be open to the public at 8 a.m.

The troops will pass through Fort Dix, New Jersey, and their plane will land at K.I. Sawyer at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

"I think we're going to have a pretty sizeable crowd here with the family members and other community members that have supported them along the way," said Chief Robert Lammi of the Michigan National Guard.  "I know their feelings towards the support that they've received are going to show tomorrow."

The homecoming is expected to last anywhere from half an hour to 45 minutes.

The troops will go through a reintegration process and then work toward regular Guard duties.
