MARQUETTE -- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has now endorsed an online safety course for younger snowmobilers.

Completion of the course will now satisfy the DNR's education requirement for snowmobile riders under the age of 17.

This is the first online course to be endorsed by the DNR.

The idea behind the endorsement is to utilize technology for more outdoor activities.

"We know people are very busy right now, especially kids with their school activities, so this is a way that they can get ready to ride a snowmobile without necessarily having to schedule something and be somewhere in person, so we're just trying to make it easier and use the technologies that the younger generation is using today," said Debbie Munson Badini of the DNR.

The online course costs $29.95, and for more information, you can click here.

Traditional in class courses are still available.
