ESCANABA -- Around 28 local businesses have contributed candy and funds to the 8th annual Trunk or Treat Halloween event.

The festivities started at 4 p.m. at Silver Winds Church in downtown Escanaba.

It's a safe way for families to enjoy Halloween trick or treating.

Community members and volunteers revamped their vehicles as the costumed kids and adults made their rounds.

Organizers say over $600 was raised to purchase candy.

"What has surprised me in the past is how many people have actually heard about it in the years that we have done it before," said Rev. Art Radlicki.  "They actually plan and tell their families about it, and their extended families.  They say, come on down, this is an event that's a lot of fun."

Organizers said the free 2 hour event can draw a couple thousand trick or treaters to the Silver Winds Church parking lot.
