MARQUETTE -- To say it was a blustery day in the Upper Peninsula on Thursday would be a major understatement.
Winds gusting up to 45 miles an hour in Marquette shook up Lake Superior, creating waves estimated to be eight feet high, according to the National Weather Service.
Lights flickered in parts of Marquette County as powerlines were pushed around. The conditions can be treacherous, but they certainly called to Marquette area residents who braved the shoreline for majestic views.
"It's just amazing," said Denise Parks of Marquette. "I've never seen it like this; I've lived here for 10 years, and I don't remember seeing it this intense."
"Seeing the power of the lake just impresses me," said Mike Parks of Marquette.
The NWS has much of Marquette County under a wind advisory until conditions are expected to calm down on Thursday evening.
