The power is still out to many area of Marquette County

The power is out to more than 2,700 customers in the Marquette County. Electric lines were ripped down Thursday night and early Friday morning with near hurricane force winds.

The Upper Peninsula Power Company has the most customers out of power. Some 1,900 in the Ishpeming area have not had power since Thursday night.

The Alger-Delta Cooperative Electrical Association services, Marquette, Alger, Delta and Menominee counties. They have some 600 members with electricity. The hardest hit areas are in the Harvey and Deerton areas, Grand Marais, Maple Ridge and southern Menominee County. The Co-op is getting help from electrical crews from Wisconsin and Cloverland Electric in the eastern U.P.

The Marquette Board of Light and Power has some 200 customers still without power this afternoon. Marquette BL&P Superintendent David Lynch says those outages are scattered and in Negaunee Township, the Harvey area, West Branch and Skandia Townships. Lynch says there are outages in the city of Marquette too, but those are primarily to single residences and will require crews going in and cutting the down trees in the backyards of homes. East Arch Street in Marquette was especially hard hit. The utility is getting help from a Traverse City power crew. Lynch says most customers will have their electricity back on tonight.

Utility officials say with the scope of these outages and the number of downed power lines, it's proving to be quite a job to get everyone back up again. Lynch says he's requested help from electric crews in Wisconsin and downstate, but there's no one available. That's because those areas were also hit by the severe storms over the past three days.
