MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University just got a new restaurant, and it's pretty cheesy.
It's called "Melted," and it's what NMU dining calls a gourmet grilled cheese station. The restaurant offers new twists on a mealtime staple adding a range of toppings.
The menu is inspired by college course levels from a plain grilled cheese at level 100 to a stacked sandwich at level 400.
Monday, Melted was packed with new student patrons who were looking for a taste of home.
"I think it's comforting because it's something that a lot of people have grown up with, and it takes you back to a place, a food memory, so you look at it and you think, well, my mom made it, but it's where I grew up," said NMU Corporate Executive Chef, Nathan Mileski.
Sandwiches start at $3.50. Melted is located in the C.B. Hedgcock Building and is open Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
