MARQUETTE -- Women come here all of the time with their children, often with nothing but the clothes on their backs.  The Harbor House in Marquette is a haven for them and other survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Wanting to remain anonymous, here's what one woman staying at the shelter had to say.

"They welcome all of the people here.  I don't feel like I'm an outcast.  They act like everybody's somebody," said the Harbor House resident.

The Marquette West Rotary Club sponsors the Seafood Festival--it's their main fundraiser--and they also provide assistance to non-profit organizations like the Harbor House.

"The Women's Center and the Harbor House have been recipients of those generous funds for many, many years," said Phyllis Loonsfoot, Harbor House Director.

Harbor House was adopted by Rotary West about a year ago.  Since then, Rotary has supplied them with furniture and many other household items.

The domestic violence shelter houses about 125 women and 100 children a year, some staying for months at a time until they can get back on their feet.

"I'm not going to be down on myself; I'm going to figure it out and I'm going to be happy," the anonymous Harbor House resident added.

Other non-profits are present at the Seafood Festival, and Loonsfoot is asking for your support.

"I've been volunteering for the Seafood Fest for about half a dozen years now.  It's a really great time, and people should go down there and donate their money so they can support non-profits," Loonsfoot said.
