ISHPEMING -- Catholic youth from Saint Joseph Church in Ishpeming are working to build a bridge to span the hunger gap in the area.

So what does that mean?  During this week's Vacation Bible School, more than 65 kids and volunteers will be working to cover a bridge with non-perishable food donations for the local Saint Vincent de Paul.

Every year, the church selects a theme that allows them to benefit the community while teaching the kids a valuable lesson.

"Every year I am really inspired by the kids participating and their enthusiasm about the simplest things that end up really meaning a lot," said Youth Coordinator Rebecca LaChappelle.

The food donations take the place of any cost to participate in VBS.

VBS will conclude with a family picnic on Friday.  A representative from Saint Vincent de Paul will be on hand to collect all of the donations.
