MUNISING -- A 48-year-old Alger County man appeared in court Tuesday for a preliminary examination regarding an incident in Au Train Township that left a woman dead this past June.

Thomas Murdock is charged with negligent homicide after he allegedly ran over 44-year-old Lisa Hardwick with his vehicle.

Investigators with the Michigan State Police say Hardwick's death appears to be unintentional.

The court heard several testimonies including those of an expert pathologist, a traffic crash reconstruction expert, and a witness.

"I heard him get out of the vehicle and yell for help," said the witness.  "So I ran around the north end of the building and he said, 'I ran over Lisa.  I need help, I think she's dying.'"

Murdock is also charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, his third offense since 1995.  He also faces one count of possession of a controlled substance.

All the charges against Murdock were bound to circuit court.  Murdock will appear in circuit court August 15.

If convicted, Murdock could receive a maximum of 15 years in prison.
