MARQUETTE -- Those walking down Washington Street in Marquette early in the morning say they can smell the muffins baking at Babycakes Muffin Company.
It may be a small, local business, but it's got a big muffin production, and that's what makes the shop tonight's Fox U.P. Hidden Treasure.
Since opening its doors in 1988, Babycakes has developed over 100 muffin recipes, but that's far from being the only product they sell.
Babycakes is also known for its coffee drinks, which are made from freshly ground, organic coffee beans. They even have grab-and-go lunch items.
But owners say that what really makes their product special is that it's all tweaked to accommodate customer requests, like their list of wheat-free, gluten-free items.
"Well, about five years ago, a number of customers had come in and requested that we started making wheat-free gluten free muffins, so we started experimenting and came up with some really great recipes, and we've just expanded them since then," says owner Kim Danielson.
The shop just started its new summer hours. They're open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
