HOUGHTON -- Charges of writing bad checks have been dropped against a Houghton man.

According to the Houghton County Prosecutor's Office, the charges against Timothy Pierner were dropped.  However, additional charges were brought against another person connected to the case.

The prosecutor's office says when statements were made in both cases, it raised doubts in the case against Pierner.

Now, Jennifer Nettell, also of Houghton, has been charged with two counts of writing checks against a closed account, six counts of uttering and publishing, as well as one count of common law fraud.  Her case has been bound over to Houghton County Circuit Court, and arraignment is scheduled for February 23.

A third person connected to the case was arrested for writing checks against a closed account. Shelly Nicholas of Houghton, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Houghton County District Court on March 4.
